Reality and theory

If you have a goal of running 26 miles in 3 hours and 30 minutes and you are at mile 20 after 3 hours, that means you have to clip off a 5 minute mile pace for the last six miles. You have to realize you have just run 20 miles at only an 9 minute clip, and presumably you are worn out. In theory, you could still make your goal, but in reality you are done. At this point in time you haven't technically failed but the writing is on the wall.

I sometimes feel like this is the story of my life. I am doing the best I can but my best just isn't good enough. I keep thinking I can do better but my legs are tired, I am hacking up proverbial blood and gasping for air. Still, there are only six miles to go and I have those thirty minutes....

I normally give up after the first 30 seconds or so

Sometimes just finishing at all is a victory in itself that should be celebrated.

There will be another race and another chance to improve....keep going.

Minnow--- Giving up is not an option, at least for a few years maybe once my kids are grown I can just say what the fuck... I am pretty sure I could be an EXCELLENT homeless person if it came to it...
