Years ago, Paul and I got in an argument

Years ago, when I lived in Miami the first time, I worked as a Manager at a rental car company. I started off on the overnight shift. One night a fellow was giving a rental agent a hard time about a drop off fee. He wanted to rent from the Miami Airport and drop the car off in Ft lauderdale. There was a 50 dollar drop charge for this particular vehicle. As the manager, I had to deal with his anger and his pleading for an exception. One of his arguments that night was: " do you know who I am?" --My reply: "Yes Sir I do, You are Paul Shaeffer, and I think you can afford the drop fee." (ok I never said the part about affording the drop fee, but I did think it.. plus it was cool getting in an argument with Paul Schaeffer...)

Bill, Why are you commenting in your own blog? well to be honest, I had several other run-ins with celebrity while working at that rental car company in Miami during the late 80s..... including , Judge Rheinhold, Jimmy Buffet., Bill Walsh, and Michael Irvin ....maybe later I will tell the individual stories on each....

I wish you had said that part about affording the fee...

In my business we get 'famous' people every now and then and it amazes me how many of them try haggling. No one wants to spend more than they have to, but i'm not gonna give you stuff for free just cause you're on tv.

Brian, I would much rather argue with a celebrity then get an autograph...

Anon... I know, I wish I would have said it also, but alas I was in the customer service business and had to be professional, and you know Kiss up to ALL customers, not just him, but basically I did stand firm on not giving him the Celebrity discount...

Did you know he wrote "It's Raining Men?"

ANYWAY, when I'm famous, just play along, I'm never saying shit like "do you know who I am."

Here's what you should have said: "Yes Sir I do. You are Paul Shaeffer and you are quite annoying. Stop being so annoying."

At which point I would have said "No, why, are you somebody?"

But I'm a little bitchy that way.

Minnow, that is so succinct and you know, to the point. I ABSOLUTELY should have said that, and if not for the fact that I had to hold myself back from being Rude AT ALL, I might have gone down that road, but more then likely instead of understating it in that human way of yours I would have went over the top with it and just Dog Cussed his CHEAP ass... but you know, instead I basically kissed his ass and did not really argue with him, other then maintaining he was not going to drop that car in Fort lauderdale for free....

Ugh, I hate it when celebs get all self-righteous, "Do you know who I am?"

What's your effing point? That I should do you a favor cause you play shitty music on TV? Douche.
