Vindictive stupidity

A story today on Yahoo about some legal issues that Erik Bedard (a pitcher for the Boston Redsox) is going through, kind of jumps out at you for both the reason they focus on in the article, as well as something they don't really touch on in the story that I feel the need to write about a little
-
Let me say this first. I really only know the details that were in the story, so my point of view is framed from that angle.
-
The gist of the story is that Bedard and a former girlfriend had a baby together and apparently they are no longer with each other. Bedard pays child support, but that agreement was signed in 2006 and now Bedard apparently makes a bunch more money so she is trying to take him back to get more money for her and her child. Fair enough, I suppose.
-
What the story focused on though was that the guy serving the legal papers is a NY Yankees fan. He wore a Yankees Jersey to do it, and was quite proud of himself. Also Bedard was starting that same day. The Redsox Organization asked if he could wait one day to do it on a day that Bedard was not going to start. The guy said his client (Bedard's X-Girlfriend) specifically requested that it be done on that day, so they let him.
-
Bedard ended up getting shelled in his start and only lasted 2 and 2/3 innings. We don't know if he was mentally a mess because of the service or not, but it very well may have contributed to his poor performance that day.

The Girlfriends insistence on doing it that particular day seems kind of vindictive. Maybe she has a right to be this way, I don't know, but it seems like it is in her best interest for him to do well when he is on the mound so he continues to enjoy that fat pay check. If the dude consistently gets shelled, that could be bad for her, and her child. So in effect, he is like the Oak Tree holding up her Tree fort of a life, and she is busy chopping at the trunk with an axe. Just seems like her own vindictiveness played out long enough, could be the type of thing that ends up having her little tree fort of a life crash down to the ground.
