We had to take our foot off the pedal tonight

We have played 3 full seasons of softball out at the Drew Street softball facility in Clearwater Florida, plus we are now 2 games into our fourth season. Through all that, we are 16 and 14. Even with that mediocre record, we won the championship in our first season, with a 5 and 5 record. (entered the playoffs with a 2 and 5 record and swept it )--- Our other two full seasons, we lost in the semi final games of the playoffs and ended both of those campaigns with a 5 and 4 record. We are 1 and 1 on this season. I think that is enough data points to assess our team as being just slightly better than average. Like, if it was a grading situation in college, we would be a C + type of student.

Tonight though, we played the worst team in the history of Softball. At the end of the thing I felt bad about the beatdown we put on those dudes. I never bullied kids when I was in school but I could imagine how it might feel taking the dweeby kids lunch money after tonight.

The final score was 24 to 1 and it was only that close because we took our foot off the gas in the end. They had two guys that were okay, and the other 8 looked like they had never played any kind of baseball or softball in their entire lives. Some of them looked like just walking and chewing gum at the same time would either lead to them choking on their gum, or tripping on their own two feet over a blade of grass.

True Story, and this is not an analogy. During the game, Fireworks were going off in the background like it was a celebration of the beatdown we were putting on em... At first when it was 14 to nothing in the third inning or so, I was okay with it. Hell we have been down by that much ourselves and came back. Its hack league Softball, and teams will implode on you, that just happens, but after about the third inning, it just felt kind of dirty.

One of those dudes had a kid in their dugout, and when they scored their run, you would have thought the guy was personally involved in solving the Oil Spill Crisis out in the gulf, he was that fired up about it. His Mom had to shush him because he was making that big of a deal about that one run, when at that time it was something like 21 to 1.

It felt so bad, I imagined those guys were Louisiana Pelicans, and we were the Oil. -

I hope we never play those guys again, or at the very least, that the next time we play them they have had some turnover in their roster. We have been beaten pretty substantially in a few of our losses, and have also put a beatdown on other teams in some of those wins, but never have I felt like it was just unfair and mean, like I did tonight.
